Week 4 - one month over

I just snapped at my mum - don’t know if that’s because of the medicine but I certainly feel irritable today!

Anyway, week four is over, the main things I’ve experienced this week are:

  • Dry hands
  • very tight, dry wrinkly patches on and around my mouth (i cant stop peeling, help!)
  • a few large spots that don’t seem to want to go
  • much brighter and better quality skin (my housemate said i was glowing!)
  • patches of skin without blackheads at all!!!

Apart from severe episodes of stinging brought on by me fiddling with my skin…i seem to be in a nasty cycle of it now… I’ve had an ok week! Still more tired than usual but the fact that my blackheads are leaving is AMAZING..especially patches on my nose where they are most stubborn.  And not having to look at an oily face every time i look in a mirror is still unbelievable - i love it!

Just thought I should mention, my derm said that he wont be doing any blood tests on me throughout the treatment, is this normal?  I’m on 60mg a day…

Also can anyone recommend something for the skin on and around my lips?  It seems that there’s no definition there any more and the skin surrounding my lips is connected in a weird way…I can hardly feel them when i wake up! hard to explain but I’m sure a lot of you know what I’m on about!

hope everyone else is getting on ok!

Hi Neen
My derm doesnt want me having bloods done through the treatment just once at the beginning and once at the end but everyone is different so i wouldnt worry too much about it as this is what they have recommended plus means you’ll be poked less! :)

Lips wise just keep trying something till it suits, I carry about 5 around with me a day ranges from nipple cream, vaseline, derma cream, nivea essential/repair and the latest addition avene skin recovery cream.
Goodluck.

Hey Neen,
I’ve just started on my roaccutane course 2 weeks ago so skin is not THAT dry yet. But a friend has strongly recommended Olay moisturising cream for sensitive skin to me and said it was the only thing that stopped him from peeling. It’s quite a cheap and good product so may be worth giving it a go!

all derms do the blood test thing differently i think. i had one before treatment then one 4 weeks in. apparently my whatever-they-are levels barely changed so i’ve been let off with having any more even though my dose has since doubled. i was just happy to know i seemingly have a very healthy liver. : )

thanks everyone, on the blood test front, im not too worried but I’m sure I’ve never heard of someone on roaccutane who hasnt had at least one before, during or after their course. each to their own i guess! in the meantime i shall take another look around at lip balms and the olay range! n x
