Posted in Roaccutane Diaries

Well, have just completed my 4th week on Roaccutane and apart from my skin really drying up, I haven’t noticed a huge difference. Still getting quite a few spots, particularly on my forehead and around my mouth, which is a bit disappointing, especially as they are really big ones, but they do seem to be clearing up a bit quicker.

Have been using Vaseline on my lips since the day I started, but the corners of my mouth have split and are really sore-not much to improve the pulling stakes! Can anyone recommend a good lip balm?

My scalp was extremely itchy for about a week, but luckily using T/Gel shampoo has sorted that out. It is very expensive though and it stinks, so I’m hoping I won’t have to use it every time I wash my hair now - will let you know.

Was really worried about my moods being affected and warned my close friends and family to watch out for that, but everyone says they’ve noticed no difference and neither have I, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign for the rest of my treatment.

Did anyone else have to wait a while before the spots really started disappearing? Maybe I’m just being impatient but after having had them for so long I just want them to go!

Hi Trix,

I am just near the end of my firsy week on Roaccuatbe. Although this is my second course, the first was in 2001. I have experienced really itchy scalp also, although the out side of my skin is flaky just after i wash, it is still extreemly oily, have u noticed this or when did the oil seem to stop for you. Im on 20mg a day and i weigh 75kg.
I remember the first time i was on it i took 60mg a day and i my skin improved in around month two i think. It was so long ago its hard to recall.
What dose are u on? weight?
Hope you improved soon.

Hey!

I have found that Carmex is the only way to keep ya lips under control! I carry a little pot everywhere! I know what you mean about the smell of T-Gel.. it’s hideous! But a necessary evil to control the awful itching lol. xx

i’ve not had badly cracked lips myself, but abi, our resident expert, recommends avent cracked nipple cream. sounds bizarre but apparently it sorts it out in no time.

I agree with the nipple cream - I had really cracked lips and it fixed them up.

I didn’t see an improvement in my skin until week 9!

Hi Ethan, I’m 65kg and am on 20mg one day and 40mg the next. My hair is not at all oily now, in fact I can go for nearly three days without having to wash it, though I usually wash it every other day as like it to look nice - distracts people from the spotty skin hopefully!
Thanks to the others for the nipple cream/carmex tips! Will get myself down to the chemist to buy some x
