Claire - Week 3 - Lets hope that the lobster look is in this season…

Well hello everyone, I hope your treatment is going well and that the side effects are not that bad! I’ve now discovered how a sultana must feel!!! hahah
So week 3 mmmm interesting to say the least. I attended a birthday party where of course there was a lot of drink. I tried to be sensible and only had a handful of drinks that weekend, little did everyone know that when I was handed vodka it was randomly left or pored into the nearest plant!
In saying that the next 2 days that followed I was very ill. It has totally put me off drinking whilst on this treatment. The excessive redness all over my body was bad enough but I appeared to have all the symptoms of sunstroke, it even resulted in me sitting in a very cool bath whilst shivering! I have then developed the horrid scaly like rash all over my arms and the tops of my legs also. I tried to persuade the pharmacist in Boots to hand over the eczema cream but he wouldn’t do so until I spoke to my derm! Great!

My face has also started to dry out regardless of what I am adding to it. If any thing the most painful is my dry lip, scalp and my eyes.

The routine of having a bath or shower now takes for ever. It begins with washing with Aqueous cream or Sanex, then either simple rich moisturiser or Vaseline repair cream for my face and neck, followed by the new e45 all over body milk and then eye drops! Madness! Let’s hope it will all be worth it.

I’ve also noticed that due to the drying out effect that my liquid intake is going off the chart! I’m now drinking between 8 - 10 pints of water!

Hey Claire,
You seem to be having quite a hard time, which isn’t good to hear. Im also 3 weeks into the treatment,so its interesting to see how different peoples treatments can be.
Well you seem to have you routine rather sorted, but possibly this may help or not,but the days i have had the reddish glow, shall we call it? I have been using this MAC product, called select tint and it simply tints your skin, its so light, not like a foundation, but that has taken the redness and made me close to my normal skin tone. Sure other brands will do a tint or something similar.
Well Ill look out for your post and hope everything is ok.
Stay positive.

Hi Claire,

I have my 18th birthday whilst I am on roaccutane so I was hoping to drink then - but if those are the side effects then maybe not!! I am going away on holiday over my birthday and I don’t want to be sick in the hotel room!! I am also at the same stage as you, and my face is often v red too - however before the treatment I often had a red face so there’s not really much change.

I had that rash as well and I slathered myself with E45 cream once or twice a day, and that got rid of it. Maybe you could try that??

Hmmm..tbh thats not down to alcohol..thats the side effects you get with roacc. anyway..I also had a rash at week 3 too..and I havent touched a drop!! So Claire, I think its ok to get drunk just the once, so long as you’re sensible..the leaflet basically says that as long as you dont binge drink or drink to excess then you’ll be fine.
