Week 3

So I’m now into week 3 and all is still going well. My face is still drying up and although I seem to be getting the same number of spots / cysts as i did pre Roacc, they go almost as soon as they appear, which is great! Blackheads on nose and chin looked awful last week, loads of them and really pronounced and obvious, however they now seem to be gradually clearing.

My lips were really bad this past week, they cracked at the sides and were very painful. I then got a couple of mouth ulcers on the inside of my bottom lip too, so as you can imagine I was not a happy bunny. I was using Cymex on my lips, but 3 days ago changed to Blistex intensive moisture, and continued using Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, especially in the corners of my mouth where they split. The Blistex has made an amazing difference and today and yesterday my lips have been normal! I’ve been applying Blistex throughout the day, but haven’t had to do it every 5 minutes just to stop the discomfort, like I had all last week. The worst bit of last week as well as the lips were my eyes! They started to feel really dry and sore, but I didn’t have chance to buy any drops, and then on Sat i woke up with my left eye all swollen underneath and red, it looked like someone had punched me! I immediately went to Boots and bought some drops and the swelling and reddness went away almost straight away.

My aches and pains seemed to have dissappeared, but I’m still getting headaches now and again. My scalp has also been really really dry and flaking, also scabbing in places (ewww!) I’ve bought some medicated T Gel shampoo, which wasn’t cheap, but it has made a HUGE difference from the 1st time I used it and I can really really recommend it. I’m feeling fine in myself, no unusual emotions etc. However I have been really tired, but not able to get to sleep at night and I have never suffered from that before. I’m exhausted but then am wide awake when I should be sleeping, don’t know if it is the tablets or what? Anyone else suffered from not being able to sleep?

Oh also I wanted to mention alcohol, as it seems to be questioned in lots of posts. I was never told any about alcohol consumption by my derm and so I have continued as normal, actually I have been drinking a fair bit more as I have just started a new job too. Had a heavy night on Sat and although I had the usual hangover, I didn’t notice anything out of ordinary. Whether this will change as my dose goes up I don’t know, I’ll have to see how it goes. I have my bloods checked next Tuesday, so if there’s anything not right I guess that’ll show it. Hope you’re all doing really well, Jen x

Hi Jenny, those side-effects sound pretty normal to me. If your eyes get too dry mention it to your derm and he/she may recommend artificial tears. They’re not like eye drops, more like a gel.

Thanks Adele, they are still sore and my sight seems to be getting fuzzy now and again. So I think I will mention this to my derm on Tues and see what she recommends. Thanks!

My eyesight has become considerably worse since about 6 weeks ago and hasn’t improved at all… I read that some people’s restore back to normal after the treatment is over and other’s don’t… A very nasty side-effect!
