Okay so….. two weeks on Roaccutane and in all honesty things are great. (Yes I am awaiting comments telling me that I will have to wait and see) But let me explain. My acne is not aggressive it has been persistent spots spaced out over my checks and forehead after trying every other treatment the doctor felt that a course of roaccutane would stop it altogether.
Since starting roaccutane my skin has became very dry but believe me its manageable, a good moisturiser twice a days sorts the problem. My eye lids are defo the worst area for dryness. Yes my lips are also very dry but to prevent cracking i just apply lip balm again like there is no tomorrow! These side effects are not as catastrophic as I thought they would be. (And yes I know, there is a chance they will get worse however there is a chance they wont)
As for my skin well, it feels clean all the time, my pores are closing, my spots are shrinking and well i dont feel like my face is so bad that I need to cover it in makeup all the time so instead i were a good moisturiser and mascara.
People are noticing the change in my skin and wholly the experience as been a positive one so far. Not too keen on increasing my dose next month as its clearly doing the trick on 40mg daily just now. Dont know if the derm will let me away with just remaining on a smaller dose for the duration of the course, worth asking I guess.
I dont know if i expected something so much worse because i researched the side effects for months and prepared for it. I am sure those of you reading this that are much later in the course will feel i am being over optimistic about my side effects and the current condition of my skin…..believe me its working already and the side effects for me are manageable as long as I dont forget to moisturise.
Take it easy…..il be back with week 3 next week and im hoping its just as up beat as this weeks.
