Hey Peter, it’s good to get the initial flare up out of the way after starting Roaccutane (some people get it after a few weeks). In 6 weeks when you start Y13 you should see a substantial improvement. Hang in there mate, it’s worth it in the end :)

HI Peter
stay with it, my skin had a really bad flare up in the second week…..I had conjoined twins between my eyebrows they were huge and left me with a swollen eye that would barely open, at the same time i had a new one come up on my chin that gave me a fat lip at the same time!!! I looked like Id gone ten rounds with Mike Tyson. My acne is cystic but my derm said she has never seen inflamation like it …one spot can cause my whole chin to swell and disfigure and if theyre on my nose it can look like its trying to escape off my face to smell something over the other side of the room …I can look like the elephant man at times!!! Anyway, now for the good news….it cleared up a lot quicker than usual and since then the spots that I do have arent as big or painful and dont stick around as long either!!! Just get past this little blip and youre on your way to lovely clear skin and me hopefully.x

Hey Peter,

I was on half dose for 2 weeks then went up to 60mg. The first 4 weeks were very bad and then suddenly at the beginning of week 7 I looked in the mirror and did not mind what I saw! I have had acne for 14 years and am now on week 11 and haven’t had a spot for a couple of weeks. Please hang in there as it is worth it.

Hey Peter,

Just think this is maybe the last time your face will flare up badly.. 16-20 weeks later, you’ll be all clear!

Stick with it - GL with your AS results :D

I feel your pain. Everyone on this site does. But, I was warned by my dermatologist that there would be flare-ups and that your skin will get much worseb but then it improves. Hang on, I’m sure it will be worth it.

when i started 3 months ago, they said it would get worse before getting better, and so it did. Thankfully i alreayd knew this and organised with my derm to start a few weeks later after i have been on holiday.

It worth it mate, it deffinatly worth it. I am very happy with the results.

Yes, please stick with it. I did, and it was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.

I had had bad acne on my face for about 12 years and had taken various antibiotics, pills etc and nothing worked. So I asked my dermatologist for Roaccutane.

My skin flared up too initially and I got really sore lips, and nose and I felt awful. On top of feeling bad about the way I looked, and the worry it wasn’t getting better, I was feeling very emotional because of the drugs.

I was on an initial 6 month course, then it hadn’t quite cleared up so I went on a further three months. It’s been 2 years now and aside from the occasional spot when I’ve had too many late nights and stressful weeks at work, my skin is really clear which I thought would never happen.

You’ll feel like a different person when it’s all cleared up I promise you. It’ll make you so happy and confident and although it might seem like a long way away when you’re having a bad day it’ll come round in no time.

All the best.
