Hi Everyone,

What a great help this website has been. I have tried all different types of treatment available for the last 15 years from your usual tetracyclines to laser treatment (ouch expensive!) to vitamins and diet controlled. Now at the grand age age of 30 I’ve decided to go out and try the hard stuff!

I went to see my dermatologist last week, I have to say I was worried that she would turn me away as it was certainly not as bad as some cases I saw in there and felt the Derm might say the same. Anyway thankfully she was v kind. I had my bloods done and although I have slightly high cholesterol she gave me 20mg and I was told to take 2 daily from the second day of my period (not heard that before!) . Judging by what I’ve read on here it seems to be a pretty high dose…..So am interested to see the reaction that I get. How amazing will it be to have clear skin - surely its worth the 12weeks of dry lips, flaky skin and the depression that could all occur!!!??

Hope you all are well.

Hi Sally,
I am just starting my third week of treatment. I can not believe how quickly my skin has been transformed. I did have an initial breakout but this healed quickly, and although my nose/mouth area is very dry at the moment, the general feel and look of my skin is much improved!
I started in 20mg, but now alternate between 20mgs and 40mgs a day. I’m not due to see my derm for another 6weeks so don’t know whether this dose will be increased.
I hope you get on ok…keep me posted on your progress! I suggest you stock up on E45 / Carmex /Vaseline!!

Hi,

Your story sounds very like mine Sally, (although having got to the top of the waiting list for Roacc the first time I was actually told it wasnt bad enough despite the fact that it was ruining my life and confidence!) I also tried the laser treatment and it was at that point I decided that stronger action was required as I couldnt keep spending money on stuff that wasnt working! (although it sis make my skin generally better it did not stop the spots!)

Im now 27 and reaching the end of week four and cant believe the difference. From day three I have been lucky and not really had any spots. I have dry lips and a big cold sore at the moment which is making my lip swollen but overall my confidence has rocketed! Im off to buy the recommended nipple cream tomorrow as I have heard that it works miracles!

I started on 35mg a day and that will be upped to 70mg on wednesday assuming that my blood results are ok, as when I had my first lot done they found that I had something slightly wrong with my liver which would need monitoring! Fingers crossed though as if 35mg can make this much improvement then 70mg should make such a big difference!

I hope it goes well for you all, keep us updated on your progress.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the advice! I’m starting tomorrow and am really hoping that as its 40mg from the start the side effects and the initial breakouts aren’t too severe!

I’ve stocked up on 8hr cream, dermalogicas active moist and barrier repair as well as their special cleansing gel - hopefully this should help keep things under control - time will tell!

Will keep you posted
Thanks and hope you are all doing well.

Hi Sally,
Thanks for all the support :D
I’m still smiling although it feels like my face is peeling off. lol. I’m sure it will be worth it in the end:)

I started my treatment on 20mg and am now on 40mg :) My derm said i would be on it for about 16 weeks, so i’m almost finished my treatment. Bit daunting really because i am not completely clear yet :S However after i have finished, i think i will carry on the diary just to help everyone else. :D

I may well ask you about London train routes closer the time, so thank you for the offer!

I hope your treatment works out for you, you deserve to have clear skin, i’ve found 6 years of acne bad enough let alone 15 years. It’s really not fair, it always affects the nicest people.

Anyway, i hope you enjoy your holiday and don’t end up twisting your ankle like i did :P
Good luck with everything :D
