I am black and use relaxers on my hair such as Affirm and dark & Lovely. I’ve had my hair in braids since I started Roaccutane as I have heard of someone whose hair fell out when she tried to relax it. Anyone with any experiences?

I don’t have the same hair type as you but I would avoid it…I usually have very strong hair but since being on Tane its become very dry and breaks…I have been using E45 shampoo and Boots dry and itchy scalp conditioner…I think its best to leave it till after you finish the treatment and still wait a few months…in the mean time just moisturise it with oils such as coconut oil or even egg is very good for the hair!

My hair is relaxed as well, and I will be due for a touch up in a couple of weeks actually. This is the beginning of my 3rd week on Tane, at 40 mg p/day. I asked my dermatologist if it would still be okay to relax as normal and he said yes, but ‘he’ is a guy so I daresay he may not know what he’s talking about…? Lol

I also noticed that my scalp has been getting itchy and sore since being on this treatment, so I’m thinking about avoiding the relaxers for a little while to see if this subsides…

Hi,
Im black too and have been on roaccutane since lets say late decemeber. I think i have 1 prescription left to take. This is because ive been stopping and starting like i keep forgeting to take it and sometimes my symtoms got so bad i thought i would give myself a break. My hair is relaxed and i have continued to use the relaxer whist on treatment. However i usually go to the salon every two weeks or so for a steam. One thing i would say is be very carefull around your hair line as i have visible scars where i recieved burns due to the sensitivity of my skin and make sure you do not leave the relaxer on for longer than 20 mins

Girl I would say..stop that relaxing thing all together!!
All that poison that goes through your skin ain’t right.

There is nothing wrong with our natural hair! it’s beautiful..wear your hair with pride. Just make some nice twists!

Well I haven’t used anything for years, and well just make sure you do take care of your hair, oil/steam treatments

Black is beautiful

Good luck
