Hi all,
This is my first post and I want to say thanks to all who have contributed. I have been reading the entries for a few weeks whilst deciding to go on Roacc and now I am into week two of my medication (20mg per day) because of all the positive comments I have seen.
I’m 34 and have been suffering from moderate persistent acne since puberty. I have tried pretty much every acne medication out there including Dianette and Yasmin contraceptive pills to keep it under control but I have never been happy with the condition of my skin and at 34 you’ve got to start thinking ‘when is my skin going to grow up’?!!
Week one has gone ok, slight dryness of my face which has eased as the week has gone on and also dry eyes. I have to take 20mg for a further week then I’m on 40mg a day for another 16 days until my next appointment.
To counteract the side effects I am using aqueous cream on my body (cheap from the pharmacy), artificial tears for my eyes, Clinique dramatically different moisturiser for very dry skin for my face and mostly Carmex and Johnson’s Mooncare lip balms. All working at the moment !!

hi
firstly can i say good luck on your roac journey, i’ve been on it 4 weeks and so far so good, first few weeks were a bit of a rollercoaster but all settling now. i found that aqueous cream was a bit greasy plus my skin still hasn’t dried out so thats been a bonus.
i was lucky to find so many miricle cures early on in treatment that i stopped alot of it before it even got bad.
i use cocoa butter all over (not on my face)
i use avon bust firming cream on my face. (mad i know but it it great for wrinkles and crows feet. (since i hit 30 ahhh).
nipple cream on my lips (the best miricle of them all ask anyone on here)
dove intense therapy conditioner and elvive dandruff shampoo on my hair.
and gin to clean my face (ut stings a bit but really gets muck out but obviously this depends on what side effects you are having)
all these are cheap and have worked, i’m a single mum so can’t afford half the stuff that has been suggested on here. also found i had to change my foundation, i managed to get a bourjour one in sale but its great so dreading when i run out as i can’t afford it at normal price.
oh and drink plenty of water
anyway hope all goes well for you
keep us informed
and keep smiling xx

Hi Kelly,
I do find the aqueous cream a little greasy but the cunning plan is to condition my skin before it gets too dry. I let it sink in before I get dressed in the morning and it’s fine - soft as a baby’s bottom - mind you, this stuff is probably used on baby’s bottoms !!
I’ve got the nipple cream as advised on this site in readiness for the inevitable lip dryness. NOT looking forward to that but I am looking forward to the improvement in my skin. As a thirty-something I find spots a little embarrassing now, don’t know how you feel about it? Only good thing is that people think I am younger than I am cos I still have spots !!
Luckily I haven’t had to change my foundation yet but I expect that to change when I go up to 40mg.
Thanks for your comments and best of luck with your treatment!

Hi Trudie
Like you, I am in my thirties, actually I’ll be turning 36 this weekend and yet, I am still plagued by acne.
This is also my first post and I have enjoyed reading all of the entries. It really has given me an insight into Roaccutane and gives me an idea of what to expect.
I have also suffered since my early teenage years and was on Dianette which really helped. I came off Dianette nearly 20 months ago now and my skin has been horrendous. It has been really hard to keep under control. After months of trying various antibiotics, creams, chinese herbalists, microdermabrasions - nothing was seeming to work. Therefore, the only thing left for me to try was Roaccutane.
My consultant was very sympathetic. I am on 40mg a day and am now coming to the end of my second week. To be honest, I haven’t really noticed that much difference. My lips are a little drier than normal, the spots are certainly drying up, but nothing too drastic. From reading all the reviews, I was expecting things to be really bad, but fortunately, I think I have been very lucky. My skin is generally very oily, so maybe that’s why I’m not so dry.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed and just hope that this works!!
Good Luck.
