Today’s post focuses on five mistakes people make when treating acne. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and with hindsight I would not make the following mistakes - in no particular order:
- Deal with acne alone. Your friends and family can be a great help, emotional support can be a great comfort whilst dealing with acne. Your parents or other family members may have experienced acne so they will know exactly what you ar going through. Talking to people online is a great way to share experience and questions – visit our latest discussion.
- Buy Roaccutane/Accutane online. You should never buy Accutane online. Buying Accutane online is illegal and unsafe, you could be taking anything - it is not worth damaging your health. Accutane use should be supervised and prescribed by your dermatologist.
- Give up on a routine. Give a new routine a minimum of two weeks before decided if it works. You may find it useful to keep a diary of your acne treatment so you can record which routines work for you. Take a look at Abi’s and Chris’s Roaccutane diaries.
- Squeeze their spots. However tempting, try to avoid squeezing your spots and touching your face. Squeezing spots may lead to irreversible scarring and touching your face can spread you acne. When washing try not to over-scrub as this can irritate your skin and lead to breakouts. When drying your face, try not to rub your skin dry, try to pat dry.
- Use unnecessary strong products. Using strong acne products may do you more harm than good. Everybody’s skin is different and a good strength varies by person. For example, Benzoyl Peroxide can be bought with three different strengths (2.5%, 5% and 10%) but the majority of people respond better to the lower strength (2.5%).
