Hi all,
Stumbled on this site whilst browsing around the internet looking for other people’s accounts of roaccutane treatment and the public diary idea seems great!
I’m currently in week 2 of my treatment having just taken my twelfth daily dose of 40mg and so far I think things are going pretty well. Of the potential side effects all that I’ve had so far is the dry skin and lips but I started applying a moisturiser the same day that I began treatement. Though currently I do wake up every morning with a nice load of dry skin adorning my forehead, but this simply washes off and after applying moisturiser it takes until about 5pm before my skin gets dry again. The lips are a bit more irritating at the moment but I’m using vaseline whenever they feel dry which is really helping a lot.
On starting the roaccutane I had previously been on 2 different antibiotic courses from the tetracycline family, both of which lasted for 7 months each. I also, at the recommendation of my GP, used an over the counter benzoyl peroxide cream. All of this seemed to have no effect whatsoever (beyond making the timing of meals far more awkward) and so I was referred to a dermatologist that presented the roaccutane to me.
The acne I have is present on my face, chest and back with the greatest amount being on my back. My face isn’t usually too bad really but it still really damaged my confidence through the teenage years having such prominent back and chest problems. I’m not sure whether I’m just being optimistic about things but I think that the acne present on my back has already begun clearing dramatically, I’m getting far less new spots developing each day and with the old ones healing it is looking a lot better back there.
Well I’ll try to keep you all informed about how things progress, early days still but with how it’s looking so far I’m definitely happy to have gotten started with roaccutane.
Olly
