Posted in Acne, Roaccutane Diaries

Hi there everyone. I am new to this site and was hoping for some positive words of encouragement with regards to Roaccutane.
I’m seeing a Dermotologist this Wednesday (02/07/08) with regards to my acne I have been suffering with for the past few years. As I was growing up, I was always one of the lucky ones never really experiencing from problem skin but then when I was about 24/25 things started to escalate, one spot would turn into the Brady Bunch of spots and low and behold, cover up by the bucket load was needed!
The problem progressed even worse in October 2007 when the acne became really nasty on my back and chest. Saw my GP who prescribed numerous antibiotics, Dalacin T and Benzyl Peroxide cream. To be far, these did work, the Dalacin T I found pretty good but then it just kept coming back. My face to be far isn’t a major problem but nevertheless, I do suffer with ‘bumps’ under the skin, blackheads and the odd Mount Etna. The main areas of concern are my back and chest, it’s so depressing, I’m 28 this coming November and I honestly believed that at my age I would be more concerned about crows feet and wrinkles and not acne!
My GP on 12/06/08 sent a request to the dermotologist for me to be seen and I was advised that the waiting list is approx 2-3 months long so when an appt came through for this coming Wednesday I was overjoyed! 2 weeks for an appointment - fabulous!!
I have read up on the side affects of this drug but I just want to know what other people personal experiences have been! Is it REALLY that bad??? I am at wits end and really want to try this drug so any personal encounters from taking this drug, good and bad will be very much appreciated!

Many Thanks in advance, Tina x x

Hi Tina;

I’ve only been on roacc for three weeks now but hardly any side effects. Skin went quite dry on face and arms but this has seemed to settle down now with daily use of E45 and eucerin moisturiser. Skin a bit more sensitive to sun and lips obviously dry but as long as they have lip balm on they’re fine. Also much less breakouts.
So, so far so good! I would definately go for it!
PS- 2 weeks!! you’re so lucky. I had to wait 3 months to see my dermatologist at local GP (had special skin clinic), then had to wait 5 months to see her at hospital so she could then prescribe me the roacc!

Hey Tina,
I think you should defenitely go for it! If your skin is getting you down then no side effect should make you compromise!
Im at around week 6/7 and ive had nose bleeds, a tiny bit mroe hair than usual in my brush, VERY dry skin and very tearful! But when they start to get you down youve just got to think of the end result and how amazing youll feel afterwards! I know I cant wait to go out with no concealer on and my hair clipped back! :D
Good Luck xx

Hey i have been on the drug twice, this is my 2nd go! Although my skin cleared up loads after the first course.

The side effects aren’t as bad as you expect a lot of the time. On my 1st course i had, back ache, head aches, dry skin and lips and strange rashes. But this time the dryness hasn’t been nearly as bad, i haven’t had as many rashes and i haven’t been itchy. But my muscle aches have been worse than last time, so i think it’s swings and roundabouts.

In the end it’s worth it though x
