I know everyone reacts differently but it helps me to know I can get feedback from others. This website was fantastic for preparing us.

My daughter is on 80mg Roaccutane and also Erythromycin to counteract flare-up. I would like advice from parents and recipients of these drugs as to whether the side effects of joint pains, stomach aches etc kept you away from school?

Was the school sympathetic? Do the side effects diminish over time? We are week 1 of a 4 month programme and having a bad time already!

Hi Judith,
I’ve been taking roaccutane for about 4 weeks now, at 30mg per day. I have had a few side effects (obviously any i get are milder because i am taking a lower dose) but so far its nothing that hasnt either been fixed, or i cant live with.
I did have stomach pains and constipation, but my gp prescribed some lactulose solution for me which seems so have fixed it. I have also had muscle pains, although i was expecting these because i am quite active. I have missed a few days of college because of thsoe side effects, but after showing my teachers/the college the side effects sheet they were very understanding.

I hope this is helpful, rich

well i’m not a parent but i have experianced roaccutane first hand, i lasted 2 weeks on 20mg a day, then i nearly tried to kill myself with no advanced warning, if i was a parent i wouldn’t let my kids nowhere near it, it’s a killer drug and not worth the risk, 2 weeks ago i was the happiest person in the world and suddenly it changed, don’t take the risk

i am 49 and a parent
Iwas prescribed roaccutane at 39(my main side effect was hair loss and joint pain - due to my age i think) not soon enough to save me from a lost life, i live with terrible scars. i bought roaccutane on line for my daughter when 2 doctors ,one private delayed and scaring was begining. she responded wonderfully and now has confidence and happiness she only had 40mg per day (by her weight) the tempory side effects were a tiny price to pay for her happiness. Acne can destroy your personality and your life.

You may find that 80mg is way to much for your daughter to be starting of with. from what i understand from my sons dermatologist you have to be weighed first and start of with a low dose. 20-30 mg. i am not surprised your daughter feels ill and suggest you check the dose asap.
