natalie: Cystic acne & mineral make-up / post roaccutane – please reply…

August 12th, 2009

Hi Everyone,

I wondered if anyone uses mineral make-up? I have used Bare Escentuals for a few years now and finished my course of roacctane about a month ago.

I never really associated my cystic acne with the make-up untill I was reading about bismuth oxychloride and mica which are both  irritants to skin, bismuth oxychloride being the worst culprit I think.

It got me thinking that my acne only really got much worse whilst using this mineral make-up for approx 4 years and now I’ve finished my course of roaccutane I’ve noticed that when I wear it I get little bumps under my skin.  This is making me quite anxious of acne coming back.  When I dont waer it my skin seems much better but I’m not sure if I’m just imagining it.

I like mineral make-up rather than liquid but has anyone else had this problem? or know of any good mineral make-up without these irritants?

Thanks

Natalie Xx

    Hi Natalie,

I bought BE a couple of months ago, to start using as now my skin was getting clear i wanted to wear a lighter make up, so i bought the starter kit, at first i thought it was really good, but then found it was causing small spots, after googling it, i found loads of forums saying the same causing breakouts, as the two ingrediants you mention are well known to cause acne/block pores. so i gave it away to me sister, so i have gone back to just a little cover up and powder where needed

Wow, really? I use bare minerals, too, and my skin does get a lot worse when I use it…I’ve always liked it because it’s so quick to put on and I never get a line around the edge of my face. But on days where I don’t wear it my skin really starts to clear and then when I use it again I break out…
Oh my goodness, I had no idea! I wonder what I should switch to that doesn’t do this?
