Hi! My name is Maggi and I’m twenty years old. I started last week on Roaccutane to clear the folliculitis on my chest and back. Folliculitis is like acne, except it’s caused by the staphylococcus bacterium. I’ve had it for years, but it wasn’t bad until now; it’s flared up horribly. My chest is red and bumpy and angry looking. I feel disgusting.

Today will be my fifth day on the treatment. I haven’t had any side-effects yet, but its early days. I’m actually hoping for side-effects, because that means that the treatment is working. I’m only on 20mg a day for a week and then on 20mg on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I wish they’d give me a stronger dose though, and then this damn thing will clear up faster.

Hi Maggi,
It’s really interesting to read about the skin condition u have - I had never heard of it before, and didn’t realise Roaccutane could be used for other skin conditions similar to acne!
Hope it all goes well - I know u feel disgusting right now (so do I because I have acne on my chest and back) but we just have to keep thinking that it will only be a few months before it could be clear! I keep thinking that if I’ve lasted this long with it, I can last just a tiny bit longer.
Take care X

Hi again guys. I know I’m writing this very soon, but I’d like some more information on the Initial Flare Up. Did anyone’s face become flushed for no reason? Can roaccutane make your hair fall out? I’m really worried about my hair.
Thanks

Hey Maggi,

I’ve taken two courses of Roaccutane now and my hair has never fallen out :-)

Also, during the start of my treatment my skin did appear quite red and the spots did get worse, but this stopped after about 3-4 weeks.

Thanks Abi, I was freaking out a little. My hair is the only attractive thing about me.

Hi Maggi,
I’ve had a pinkish glow across my nose and cheeks, but it’s nothing major, and I bet no one else really notices it - especially when I’ve got make-up on.

Also I’ve been taking Roaccutane for 3 weeks and my hair hasn’t fallen out yet! But everyone reacts differently, so it’s hard to say what will happen to each person. You only find out by taking the tablets, and I told myself that if anything happens I don’t like, I can always stop taking them. : )
