Hi guys, I’ve only just found this website and have got to say it’s brilliant. I’ve been taking Roaccutane for 2 weeks but would love to do a diary, as reading some of the entries on here this morning has been really helpful. So I’ll just briefly go over my background and first couple of weeks.
I’m 19 and I’ve suffered from acne since I was 14, and would say it is pretty severe! Like most people it has affected my confidence massively. Looking at myself before and after getting acne I seem like a completely different person! Anyway I’ve been going to my GP since I was about 15 and have tried all the tablets, lotions and creams and nothing has worked. After finally being referred to a dermatologist I started taking roaccutane 2 weeks ago.

Being a very tall lad I’m on 45mg to start, going to 90mg after the first month. I’ve got to say I’m feeling pretty happy with how the first 2 weeks have gone. The dreaded outbreak didn’t seem to hit me too hard, as I’m so used to waking up and seeing plenty of new spots anyway! Already the number of new spots coming through has massively reduced. I’ve felt a few big ones lurking underneath my skin but I go to bed and all is fine in the morning!

The side effects have been nothing worse than I anticipated. As I said the initial outbreak didn’t seem too bad but my lips have got very dry already. I knew this would happen but was surprised by how quick it did - after my 2nd day they were feeling bone dry! My hair is also thinning but that’s nothing to drastic, I think it might even make it look better as my hair does get very bushy!

So as you can see I’m feeling quite positive at the moment! Now that I’ve got this going I’ll update it weekly like everyone else.

Hi Luke,
Glad to hear things are going well for you. I’ve just finished my third week and am also really positive : )

Must say that I really sympathise with guys with acne, because as you would have read on here and seen, all girls apply lots of make up to cover up and you will notice that we mostly have long hair so we can cover our face, but I always feel sorry for guys because you don’t really have these ‘shelters’ to hide behind and I think it makes you vulnerable having no ‘protection’ but very brave for doing so!

Hope things continue to go well.

Hi Guys,

Like Luke I am a new user to Roaccutane and a new user to this website, I am on my 5th week of treatment and due a blood test in 3 weeks. After an initial period of having crystal clear skin for the first time in – well ever! I have now started to have the dreaded breakout! If any one could recommend a good moisturiser to use I would be grateful as my skin in currently really dry. I have tried most non fragranced brands but I am finding I am forever re applying due to my skin being so dry. Sores are developing all over and as a male you can’t cover these up! My lips are also bad but I find if you use Blistex and chap sticks thru out the day they offer some relief. As a keen sports player I have not had any sore joints or discomfort in playing sports. I am really happy to report this as sports plays a massive part of my life.

Thanks for reading!

Hi Everyone

Daniel i would recommend you use a 100% oil free moistuiser such as Visably Clear from Neutrogena or LAB Series do one also. For lips i always found the best is Vaseline. I find chapsticks too dry.

This is my 4th course of Roaccutane and I am just about to start. I have had a 3 year break and I have complete confidence in the drug despite the side effects. Since taking the previous courses my acne has never returned to the servere state it was when i was a teenager. Im now 24 and have started to break out again on my back so am catching it while I can.

I hope I can be of some help seeing as I have taken the drug before.

Thanks!
