kennygawne: DIFFERIN WHILST ON ROACCUTANE

December 3rd, 2009

Other the last few months ive been using differin , it has done very little for my acne but for my red marks it has been a godsend i get left with a redmark which would usually take around 12 weeks to heal with differin its literaaly gone within days as it constantly sheds dead skin , my question is is it safe to use differin whilst on roaccutane ive read some reviews saying ist absolutely fine , and some people saying you shoudn’t. Ive also read alot of reviews about a product called emu oil which many people in the u.s use when there on roaccutane, i think its similer to bio oil tbh

basically, its not recommendable KEnny. Roccutane will dry out your skin so much that using a topical retiniod at the same time will just make the peeling, flaking and irritation worse. same thing fr Emu oil because ti has vitamin A in it.

I know some people get away with using these topicals at the same time as R, but personally, and according to my derm, the answer to your question is NO. you can always deal with residual red marks once your R course is over, but if repeated peeling and raw skin on your face results from using, say, differin at the same time, this may make scarring more likely in the same way that using exfoliants can….it all depends how senstive your skin gets though…ask your derm his or he advice…

    h,
for a while iused a topical cream whist using roaccutane but i dont recommend you to use it without your derms permission..it was my derm that gave this jel to me..i was a special case i guess because i respond to the drug very late and didnt have flacky or dry skin for 4 months..and i used the cream at that time to help with my breakout, now my skin is dry so i dont use it anymore otherwise i will irritate it more and my marks become more red..so

ill have to speak tomy derm about it :)
my previous derm who reffered me to the hospital said it should be fine aslong as you use it at night
maybe i could use it and just see how my skin reacts

you can do that but again my advise would be to not use it unless you really need it.now when you dont use roaccutane i am sure it helps to reduce redness on your marks bur with roaccutane it has a contrary effect because your skin will change totaly.i use it for my acne not for marks and from my experiance after staoping to use topical jel my marks are much fader than when i was using the jel..it irritates the scars and marks and make them really red..i guess for you roaccutane will be enough..

i was reading your blog and wished i was like you. You are very focus on getting rid of your acne. I finished roac treatment 3 weeks ago. my face remains spot free and very dry. Just a word of advice Dont overdo it. Roaccutane is a potent drug that ussually sort out acne that’s why deramtologist prescribe it as alast resort. Goodluck on your treatment!
