Oh shame Kenny! But perhaps he has a point? At the end of the day roacc is a terribly strong drug and not one to take lightly. I know it’s not what you want to hear though… Give it 4 months like he says and if it doesn’t clear up then at least he’ll give you roacc then.

I don’t know, but a lot of people break out when they start roaccutane. As if the spots were there, just waiting to surface, and once they’re out then the skin starts to heal. Whether this really is the case, or if this is true for other treatments, I don’t know. I’m still getting spots 10 weeks into my treatment with roaccutane, so getting rid of acne is no speedy process.

When I went back earlier this year to be asked to see a derm my GP told me that I hadn’t tried antibiotics long enough. I had tried several different ones for 6 months to a year, I think it was. She said it can take up to 18 months for antibiotics to actually work and actually clear the acne. As I had been offered roaccutane earlier by a derm she gave in and referred me to my local hospital.

Look at it this way, if your derm says it’s the mildest form of acne he’s seen in a dermatology practice, then be happy, it clearly could be a lot worse! :-) You could have my skin!

Hi Kenny I used differin for a month while deciding whether to take roacc or not. I found it to be the most effective topical cream I had ever been given. To start with it made my skin really sore and red (and it stung) but after a couple of weks it got better and I learnt which bits of my face were too sensitive for application. I would say that after a month, my spots were drying out much faster, but of course, like any acne treatment, you cannot expect to have clear skin immediately because you have a couple of months worth of skin already waiting to work its way to the top complee with blocked pores, and until you get a fresh layer without any blockages (by whatever mechanism) you will still get the odd pimples.

    Sparks.

hi kenny, when I had my first derm appointment in October 2006, I was told my acne was of the mildest form too, he almost laughed at me when he saw my skin!! I was given differin and duac and another antibiotic to use for a minimum of 12 months, he said he would no way consider me for roaccuatane until after this period of time, even tho I had used all the other antibiotics and topical treatments. The differin was really good to start with and halved the amount of spots I got. It does make them worse to start with but most treatments do, you have to use them for a minimum of 3 months usually to see any results. it clears the ones you have already and reduces the amount of new ones. I had this treatment for 18 months and had my 2nd derm appointment in April this year and I didn’t even have to ask for roaccutane this time because my skin had got so bad. All I can say is, hang in there and use the differin it may work really well for and you have your age on your side too as you are still 16, it may get better on its own. If not go back to your derm in 4 months time and take it from there :o )

Hi Kenny, I agree with Loulou, I would keep going with the cream tbh – I spent £700 on n-lite and it did nothing for me and just made me feel even worse for wasting the money on it

hi kenny, i was gonna do the laser pixel for acne treatment at harley street but so happy i didnt. i am now on my 3rd week of roaccutane so far and i have hope (even tho the second week was sooo bad) I think you should stick it through and if the cream is making your skin worse stop taking it and ask your derm for roaccutane because at least the results on roaccutane will be more long lasting. Goodluck and dont give up hope

Nah I went to a private clinic where I live. I’ve still got acne and my skin tone as a whole has been made worse by it – like redness and scarring.

Hey. I was on Differin and another gel called Zindaclyn for almost a year, at first it made my skin worse too, and really red and itchy. It improved a bit but didn’t last long…soon the spots returned. It sucks I know, believe me I know. Especially when all your friends have nice skin!
I gave up with those gels and told my specialist I wanted Roaccutane….as i’d heard about it and a couple of my friends were/had been on it and I’m now i’m on it! 40mg a day, have been on it for 3 weeks, and its AMAZINGGG. Maybe go to your GP or dermatologist and explain what you’ve heard about Roaccutane etc. and explain how the acne is affecting you i.e. self esteem.
Hope it all works out for you!
