kashfia: Day 1, course 2… :(

November 9th, 2009

Yes I am back on it again. Not sure what my reaction should be. Yes, roaccutane is the only medicine that works on me and I did enjoy having a scar-free, pain-free year or so. But I really hoped that would be the last time I would have to go through the pain of dry-lips, dry-skin…the hassle of blood and pregnancy tests…

A bit of history…if I can recall correctly – I was on 40mg per day, had it for about 20 weeks (I think). I have had acne for about 9 years now. It has had its ups and downs over the years but my worst nightmares are the horrible purplish scars! And having Asian complexion doesn’t help the situation either.

I took lots of pictures to show my derm in case she isn’t convinced…my acne is so cheeky, it tends to disappear just as my Dr’s appointment nears. However this time there wasn’t any convincing needed, she started me on 20mg straight away…

So here I am about to pop my 1st pill. Usually I get excited about the prospect of going shopping, but this time since my list is a whole new array of creams and shampoos to get me through the times ahead I don’t think I am all that keen….Last time I wasn’t to good at managing the swollen, peeling dry lips/ skin, I was so flaky all the time! So please please feel free to give me your feedbacks on products that work….

Will keep you posted on my ‘progress’…here is to a healthy-skinned-future…

hey kashfia, i hope this course does it for you once and for all. it must be awful having to go through it all again. Carmex i have found is the best thing for your lips.it really soothes them straight away and mine havent been very flaky at all. I use the simple range for my face, washing and moisturising and it seems a lot of others use it too.

so good luck on journey number 2!!

    Hi Kashfia,

I know what you’re going through – exactly what you’re going through – I’m on day 2 of course number 2! I had my first round in Feb last year, I was on 60 mg a day for 17 weeks, but even that wasn’t enough…. My skin was much better but then it all came back with a vengeance!! I’ve started on 20 mg a day this time, so here’s hoping it’s gonna be 2nd time lucky….

Good luck with the next few months, I’m with you!

    Liz

    Hey Kashfia.
Im in exactly the same boat as you – day 2 of course 2 today. Will be interesting to see if the side effects differ – since I’ve got asian skin too! Also not sure how to feel – happy for knowing the acne will go, or dreading the side effects that I know will come.
    Anyway, goodluck!!

@Jolene, thanks for the words of inspiration and the advice! I will definitely give the simple products a try this time. I have been using a simple face-wash since i finished accutane, but i suppose I need the one for dry skin now. Good luck with your treatment!

@Liz and Sweetie, we are all at the very same stage! would be interesting to compare notes :)
Its a shame we have to go through this all over again…but lets all hope to be 2nd time lucky! hope to be in touch in a weeks time. Till then best wishes!
