Hi all just started my 1st course last Friday I’ve been suffering acne for well over 10 years now and I am praying for the day my skin is free from it.I have been put on 30mg a day as I am 12 stone do you’s think this may be too low a dose as I was expecting to be put on a higher dose. Also I still haven’t got any side effects yet is it still early days or could I be free from them?.And finally for now I’d just like to say I found this site by accident but I think it is a great idea and I personally have found some usefull information already{it’s nice to know I’m not alone even though it felt like it when going out and looking around and feeling like I was the only one one with horrible acne}.Thanks Jim.

Hi Jim,
I am starting my roacc course today and I too have had acne for years so here’s hoping that this is the end for spots!!! I weigh 9 stone and I’m on 60mg per day so maybe your dose will go up in the future.Think my derm has decided to blitz mine!! I think you have to focus on the end result if you have any side effects and try to get through them. I agree this site is fab, it’s nice that we can all support each other.

Best of luck!
Lisa. x

Hi Jim
like you im on 30mg a day,im 9st 4lb and just about to start week 4. I havent really had any side effects except for a red nose for about 4 days and bumpy skin when I went out in the sun.
I dont know how old you are (im 37) but my derm said because of my age she had to see what the effects the roac were going to have on my cholesterol and tryglyceride levels before she can increase the dose. I have been really good and have been cutting back on all the bad fats and taking benecol supplements to keep my cholesterol down ….but ive just had my blood test this morning so I thought I deserved a big fry up when I got home after being so good for the past two weeks ha ha!!
The good news is that my skin has improved a little bit ….im still getting cysts come up but they tend to go down a little faster and they dont seem to swell up as much!
Anyway, from what ive read id say that when you go back to the derm theyll increase your dose ….and mine hopefully!!! x

hello jim,
i’m also on 30mg and hoping for dose to go up sometime soon. my skin didn’t start drying out until i was well into the second week of roac so it’s probably way too early to judge if you’re getting away with the side effects. make sure you stock up on moisturiser and lip salve now cos when the dry out happened for me it was literally overnight. good luck.

Hi Guys,
Like you Mandy, I am on the Benecol and low fat stuff as I want to keep everything as low as poss as I’m 40. Can’t beleive I’ve still got bloody spots at 40!!! How embarrassing is that… My derm was mentioning tryglicerides etc but still put me straight onto 60 mg per day for 16 weeks, I weigh 9stone. Mandy, in your earlier blogs did you say you were seeing your derm privately? I am as I wanted something doing asap. I’m on my second day and wondering when all these lovely side effects will start!!!!! I supose when my skin dries up and I feel shite at least I’ll know it’s working… xx

Hi Jim,

It’s likely you have been started on a low dose so ya derm can gauge your susceptibility to side effects and also for your body to adapt to Roacc and tolerate higher doses better. My derm has told me that the guide they use is a max dose of 1mg per every 1kg of body weight, so it’s likely that your dose will increase in the future.

Good Luck! Andy

Hi lisa
yes i am seeing my derm privately because I was at my wits end with my skin!! I figured it would be worth it because I spend so much on cosmetics to cover the little blighters up and creams and potions that are supposed to give me lovely clear skin….. that have all failed miserably!!!!! Top tip…. I get my monthly blood tests done at my local surgery and take a printed off version to the derm because if you have them done privately they are £50 each, I also buy the pregnancy tests from boots, the cheapest, and take the results with me….otherwise thats another £25! Good luck ….Im hoping to go onto 60mg on Friday, fingers crossed!!x

Hi Mandy,
I hope you get up to 60mg, lets get shot of the damn things for good!!! My prescription costs me £106 every 28 days (60mg tablets), I do get my bloods done at my local surgery but I’ve been told I have to have my pregancy test done at the hospital. When does your skin start to dry up and the breakouts start??? I’m eagerly waiting as I want to get it out of the way, but I’m only on day 3 so I guess I should be patient!

Hope it’s going well for everybody, hopefully we’ll all have fantastic skin for christmas!!!!!!!! fingers crossed.

Hi Mandy,
I actually meant 3 x 20mg tablets per day, not 60mg tablets!
It’s a good job I don’t work in a chemists!!!

Hi Lisa
Ask your derm if you can take your own preg test and do it there…boots own are two for £5! Big saving. Well im counting down the days to friday….I had a big breakout in my second week…really bad…but surprisingly I didnt get that upset because I knew that it was the beginning of the end..hopefully!!! My skin is a little pinkish at the moment but my derm said when youre in your thirties it doesnt usually get as red and dry as when youre in your teens or twenties…YEAH ..some good news at last ha ha I may be old and wrinkly with clear skin but at least I wont be red as well. I cant really say my skin feels really dry at all but its definately not oily and my pores have shrunk around my nose and chin but that could be because im still on 30mg….tooooooo low! On the third week my skin became bumpy all over my cheeks almost like goosebumps but that seems to have subsided now too. However Im afraid to say Ive still got some major cysts between my eyebrows ..ouch..and a couple on my chin, but im living in hope….x ps Hi jim , hope your skin is getting lovely and clear, sorry luvvie we seem to have taken over your diary …hope you dont mind! xx

I’m on day 5 now and so far no new spots, my skin feels tight and tickly and dare I say it, it seems to look clearer too. Calm before the storm me thinks…..my skin still feels and looks slightly oily but there is a definate improvement. I’ll ask the derm about the pregnancy test, tiddling to order is no fun I can tell you!!!! How are you doing Jim, your a new starter like me, can you see any improvement?? Fingers crossed.
Best of luck everybody.xx
