Posted in Roaccutane Diaries

I turned 24 this week and have had relatively mild acne on my face since I was about 16 I guess. I’ve tried so many different drugs and creams but have only recently been to see a dermatologist (the appointment was actually for an allergic reaction I’d had to something I’d eaten).

She has given me roaccutane but I’ve put off starting them until after I complete the Great Capital run this Sunday. I’ve always been pretty active and signed up for the race the day before I actually got prescribed this treatment. I was dissapointed to hear you have to cut down physical activity. Sore muscles etc. is one side effect I really hope I don’t get too badly.

Now I’m working full time I’m also a bit worried about many of the side effects and how they might impact on my work. I go to quite a lot of meetings and networking events and I know I’ll be really self conscious of what people think when my skin goes through it’s worst times after starting the treatment.

My boss is being understanding about the whole thing but I’ve not told anyone else at work that I’m going to start taking them. I won’t be able to keep it under wraps for long as we’re quite a social group and they’ll notice pretty quickly that I’ve stopped drinking!

Wish me luck with the run and my first week of treatment! :o)

Good luck :) ….everyones body reacts different to the treatment….i am 23, diet is not bad….skin has been bad on/off for years. I have also been on other medications, like Zineryt lotion and oxytetracycline. I have nearly completed my second month and have seen a good improvement (touchwood). Side effects have not been that bad either, well worth it considering what the outcome might be.

Saying that, my friend is also on it and her body has not adapted well. I just hope it works for everyone, i know how acne brings you down and harms your confidence. Anyway, Good Luck again!

Hi Irv,
I too am very active and run and go to the gym so I’m hoping that the muscle aches are not too bad as I still intend to run!! But I think if the roacc sorts our skin out then a few aching limbs is a small price to pay. I start my course on 31st July & can’t wait to get on with it.

Best of luck.

Lisa.
