Hey everyone. I am 16 and have had acne for about 3-4 years. I go to an all girls school so it’s really hard sometimes as some girls are just complaining about one tiny pimple whereas i have a face full! Over the years i have tried various face washes such as clearasil etc and then i went to my doctor who gave me cream after cream (none of which worked) like differin and benzol peroxide. Last christmas (2006) i went on oxytetracyline until about september. they worked for about a month and then the acne came back. then i came off these and went on dianette which also didnt work. the main issue for me is that whether i pick the spots or not, they always scar terribly. i have big pits over my face-it looks as if i’ve got small pox!! In january, after hearing from on of my friends who went on roaccutane, i went to the doctor who was happy to give me a referral. I waited about 5 weeks for an appointment on the nhs and had it yesterday. the derm was very helpful and didnt even consider other options-he put me straight onto it!! I have to fo for a blood test next week and then a few hours after that, if the results are ok, i should be given my first months supply! each month i will have to do a pregnancy test before i get my next months supply which will be a bit annoying but worth it in the end im sure!!! Im going on it for 4 months at 55mg and the derm said he doesnt need to see me again unless it reoccurs after stopping.

I’m so excited about starting this as i will (hopefully) have gorgeous skin in time for summer. I found this site when researching roaccutane and have been jealously following the stories of those of you who now have great skin!!

I’m a bit worried about the side effects as i wear my contacts quite a lot. What eye drops are good? (I wear 2 weekly acuvue advanced contacts) Also the dry skin-money i a bit of an issue so which products will be good as i can’t afford Elizabeth Arden!! I moisturise every morning and night anyway so i hope my skin wont go too crazy!! I will be finishing my AS Levels when the course will be ending so will want to celebrate: is one or two glasses of wine really bad, will it stop the roaccutane working?

Sorry for all the questions!! I’m going to try and keep a diary on her (if i remember!) because there are not many from people my age and i think i will give people like me the confidence to get this sorted as it has done for me.

Good Luck everyone!!! Emmy x

Hi Emmy,

Good luck with starting your course. I am sure it will help you get the beautiful skin you want and deserve. I do get upset when I think that people like you and I and everyone else on here has to live with this terrible condition.

As we are starting to head towards the hopefully nice weather and you may still be on roaccutane, I would definitely recommend a high factor sunblock. I have found that my skin does become quite sensitive to the sun and the last thing I wanted was sun damage on my lovely clear skin, after the roaccutane that is:-)

You mentioned Dianette, are you still on it? I did not think that Dianette was doing anything for my skin, however have a look at the post I put on about Roaccutane and Dianette, this may help you out a bit for the future.

Good luck with the course, I started mine yesterday and have my fingers crossed. Like you I am looking forward to having beautifully clear skin for the summer :-)
