Hi all

Am only a few days away (I hope) from starting my first course of Roaccutane, need to get the all clear from my blood tests. I’m a 24 year old female stuffing THE worst acne of my life. I always used to get the odd spot and previously had taken dianette whic cleared it up. But this latest bout has been extremely soul destroying, have tried all the usual stuff such as Zineryt (which for my skin was dire!) and have been on antibiotics and Cilest simultaneously for past 7 months, although I have seen some improvement it is all still there and I still get horrible spots showing up at times you just dont need it.

I had put off seeing the derm as I had read lots of articles about this type of treatment and to be honest it scared me to boot I have have type 1 diabetes - I’m sure there are lots of people who have both but I’d be really interested in hearing your stories likewise I’d be really interested in hearing anyone’s hints and tips especially for first timers like me.

So far this site has been really helpful and has spurred me on to write my own diary I will take some pics too, I still have huge reservations about the treatment mainly due to the side effects but I’m thinking it will be worth it for good skin, at least something better that what I’ve got now.

I’d be interested to know whether a dance class at the gym is considered ‘intensive exercise’ as I’d really like to keep doing some form of excercise - any thoughts?

Hey Andrea,

Read Abi’s post about the “Elite products”. I use some of these at the moment, and they will help you get through the course whilst controlling the side effects. I use Simple face wash, vaseline and Eucerin. Eucerin is q expensive, but does the job. Only use it at night tho as it makes ya face UBER shiny!

Good Luck!x

Hey!

Glad you have decided to go for it. I was terrified by all the possible side effects and the dry skin is a nightmare, but on the whole (at week 12) I think it has been worth it.

On the dance class front, I have been continuing with my normal ballet classes all the way through the treatment and haven’t had any more aches and pains that I normally get. I suppose everyone is different, but unless you really struggle and are in a lot of pain I would say go for it!

Good luck

Hey - good you decided to go for it. I am on week 11 now and things are looking up. It is a bit of a rollercoaster as you will have good days and bad days but just stick with it.
I found I had muscle pain around 1 month but now I am fine and do an hour cardio 3 - 4 times a week and I am fine and I am on my max dose so I am sure you will be fine!
I use Simple facewash and the boots cleanser which have been great! I don’t moisturise unless I have to go out and put make up on! Your skin will flake but then it usually turns to normal by itself!
Good luck F x
