ok, i need some help… am only on day 16…soooo many days to go!!….and am only on 30mg a day but i’m on the verge of quitting already…i don’t think i can hack months of this.

have had very dry skin and lips since about day 5 and although it was uncomfortable and annoying, had it under control with various lip balms moisturisers etc. Well for the last two days although my lips are settling down, my face has been bright red, i mean totally scarlet, and hot, and flaky and scaly all over but especially on my chin and round the bottom of my nose. so bad everyone thought i’d been sunburned…and i’ve been following the advice religiously and avoided the sun :-(

but also yesterday i started getting a bit of back ache. today however its gone into overdrive and i can barely walk, can’t lie on my sides, left or right, and even sitting still is painful…if i catch it wrong i go into somekind of spasm. i can’t remember injuring it and haven’t done any lifting so can only imagine it’s down to the roaccutane…reading the info sheet is this what myalgia is???

i only ever had mild acne but it was persistent, lasting 15 years or more. that’s why, after careful consideration, i decided that having tried everything else, i’d give roaccutane a go. i was expecting the side effects but at the same time hoping i would get off lightly…fat chance! i know it’s the same for everyone but i just can’t face seeing anyone or going into work as i look like so horrendous. it leaves me longing for the days when i just had to worry about spots…now i have to worry about spots (yup, they’re still there), dandruff, scales, pain, weight gain (although think that’s the pil rather than the roacc) and a beetroot face!!

please tell me this will pass SOON!!

hang in there carol…. u seem to have suffered more side effects than me which is very unfortunane and i truley sympathise with you . but just think after this is complete you wont have 1 worry at all no spots and no more side effects. just remember the reason u went on roaccutane and that will help u push threw this hard time.
hope your ok.

Hey Carol,

I can sympathise with you. I’m on Day 11, and have all the side effects you have listed. Bright red face evoking the comment “wow.. you need to buy a hat”.! My back spasms if i lie down on the sofa for too long which is very uncomfortable. Got to move around until it fades! Also got dry lips, cracked skin beneath nose and on chin.

I’m reeeeally hoping it gets better by next week. I have a presentation to do to 8 consultants at work :o! HOW EMBARRASSING. & it’s lovely outside and I want to sunbathe, but can’t! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I digress. Stick in there & wait it out. I like you have mild acne and am using Roacc for its stubborness rather severity. It apparently gets much better by week 4 for mild acne sufferers, and then relatively clear onwards.

Hey carol,

I’m on week 7 and in my experience weeks 2/3 were by far the toughest! I was itchy, achey, flakey and really, really tired. All that seems to have gone now though, with the exception of dry lips and dry (but manageable) skin. Hang in there! it gets better (quickly!)- I’ve not been this content with the state of my skin for years! xxx

Hi Carol,

Try hang on in there! I had (notice I said “had”) moderate acne but Tane has really cleared me up so far and I am on week 11. Yes, it took a while and it is a fairly slow process but it’s worth it. I have had a few break outs just when I thought things were getting better and who knows could have another one. Things change daily whilst on Tane. I have had all the same side affects…I have olive skin so it’s particularly odd when I am bright red.

For the dandruff use e45 shampoo or boots dry and itch scalp stuff that helped me after a few washes. Most of the horrible side affects pass by week 4. I still have scaly dry arms but that’s kept under control with cream.
Good luck because the results are worth it and once you start having clear skin you will forget all the rubbish you had to go through!

YES IT IS

even if you had twice as much side effects as you described , it will be still worth it.
