Posted in Roaccutane Diaries

well the ridiculously oily skin i had for the first week literally disappeared overnight on about day 10 and for the first time ever in my life moisturiser soaks in rather than sitting on top of the skin which i love.  i’m slapping it on about 3 or 4 times a day and so far have avoided the “lizard skin” look except for my lips which are coming off in strips despite liberal applications of lip balm.  my big red nose went at about the same time as the oil so i feel more human again.

i seem to be at the start of a breakout just now, i’ve had a small planet growing at the side of my nose for about 4 days and a few whiteheads popped up to say hello this morning.  i’m expecting to have a pizza face soon but that stuff’s gotta come out for my skin to get better so as long as it doesn’t go on for too long i reckon i can handle it.  my blackheads look appalling but i find not dusting the mirror helps with that! ; )

my eyes feel a bit sticky today so i’m off to the pharmacy for eye drops tomorrow.  i’ve also been feeling really sleepy and heavy-limbed.  i could probably sleep about 16 hours if i had the chance.  is this normal?

i’m really enjoying not having to wash my hair every day.  though the extreme dryness is also a bit troubling as my hair’s quite over processed as it is (dyed ‘cadbury’ purple and i have to straighten it).  i may have to invest in some expensive salon moisture treatments to stop it breaking.  if i’d known i was going on roac i’d never have had it dyed the last time.  hey ho, too late to change that, will just have to see how it goes.  i can always get it cut short if the situation gets really bad, it’ll grow back i s’pose.

i reckon my side effects will definitely get worse after my dose is put up (2 weeks time i think) but i’ve been prepared for the worst and reckon i’m getting off very lightly so far.  i hope everyone else is having it as easy. and if you’re not, it’s just the crysalis before the butterfly emerges so keep with it as long as you can.

Hi enigma,
I had to smile at your description of your oily skin, cos it’s exactly like mine!!! It must be quite a novelty putting moisturiser on that actually soaks in, mine just sits on top of my skin like a vat of lard!! I’m on day 6 week 1 and I must say my skin is drying up quite nicely and no new spots to date but I reckon that’ll change, my face is very itchy though and my lips are dry.My scalp is itchy too, my hair is dyed but at the moment still not too dry. What dose are you on at mo? I’m on 60mg per day.

Best of luck and keep slapping the moisturiser on!!!

hiya lisa,
oh the novelties just keep on coming! moisturising, not washing hair daily, and now toothpaste helps dry my spots just like normal people! i’m actually enjoying this roac malarkey so far! i’m only on 30mg just now, it’s getting doubled either next week or next month though so i dare say i might have a levity failure then when i REALLY dry out. i’ve not got the itchy scalp yet and i found a dirt cheap leave-in conditioner to stop my hair looking so straw-y so all’s good. just wait til you moisturise for the first time and it all soaks in immediately, i was like a kid at xmas.
