Day 14, and my skin is a mess! Dry skin, bits hanging off.. red marks from old spots, new boil like spots on cheeks. Probably 5 times worse than when i started two weeks ago. I don’t know how i’m going to go to work tomorrow :-(. As soon as someone mentions my skin to me, i just know my confidence (what’s left of it!) will be shattered! I can hardly sleep due to horrid muggy British weather and this damn itchy scalp, where when i scratch it feels like i create a cloud of flying skin! OMG. I’m tempted to reduce my dose for a while. Currently at 70mg. Perhaps i’ll take 50mg tomorrow for a while!

Is it normal to have blackheads come up EVERYWHERE? All over my nose. It looks truly awful. I know it’s going to get better, but have no idea how to make it through this part!

Any advice welcome! - Sorry for the rant..I think it helped :p.

Andy,

I had exactly the same happen to me! All I can say is it is normal and will improve! It sounds as if the side effects are really bad - maybe call your derm before reducing your dose though because the drug is obviously working!

Have you tried Head and Shoulders - sensitive scalp shampoo? That really worked for me. Also, when my skin got in that state of dryness and flakes galore the only thing that worked was Eau Thermale Avene - skin recovery cream. You can only get it from Boots and its about £11 but worth it - maybe try that if you haven’t yet -it keeps flakes at bay!!

Hope that helps,
Katie xx

Hey Katie,

Thanks for your message. Yeh, I guess this shows the drug is in full swing. I’m avoiding mirrors and wishing time away! I’m hoping on such a high dose that my skin will clear sooner than at the week 8/9 point at which it seems to for most people on here.

I shall buy some H&S, and some Eau Thermale Avene. A trip to Boots methinks *thinks where my advantage card is?* It’s unbelievable how the state of my face can reealy get me down within a day!

Thanks,

Andrew x

Hi Andy, All those blackheads will suddenly disappear on their own. The medication does something to the size of your pores so if there’s dirt, oil, sebum etc in them it brings it to the surface. It does this to all the spots eventually but its quicker with the blackheads probably cos’ they’re on the surface. Its the first improvement you’ll notice. Adele.

Hey Katie,

‘Eau Thermale Avene - skin recovery cream’ - good stuff. Pricey, but very much worth it. I am now less flaky. Red skinned but very much less flaky.! Thank you for the suggestion. I’ve just been to a job interview, and it was so nice to know that there wasn’t bits of skin hanging from my dermis. Andy x

Hey Andy
Im 2 days behind you i think - at day 16 today.
Looks like we are on the same stage with the whole side effects - my scalp is so itchy and flaky although using conditioner and really massaging it in is helping. My skin however is a completely different story - red marks all over my chin, had two big boil-like spots appear yesterday which are huuuuge and blackheads are looking pretty obvious on the nose!!
Also dont know how i will go to work tomorrow!!!
So i know how you feel there
