Well I am nearly through my second week of roaccutane (40mg per day). So far i have not seen a great deal of difference. I am still getting new spots every day - sometimes on areas like my cheeks where i never had a problem before, but primarily on my chin as normal. It is a combination of smallish red spots and great big hard lumps that you can feel brewing under your skin for a day before forming a head. Actually, those who thought the most active volcano in the world was in hawaii should take a look at my chin!
Im not convinced that this is the roaccutane doing this. Maybe because i was on tetracylines before these pills and had to stop taking them a week before taking to Roacuttane, if the R is not taking effect properly yet then this is probably what my skin would be like with no medication at all ??? Or maybe the roaacutane does make your skin worse before it gets better - who knows!
A lot of you said you noticed that your skin had dried out by week two - well mine is still producing more oil than Saudi Arabia! The spots that i have seem to be drying out on my chin and going flaky but my cheeks / nose / chin is still shiny as hell.
In fact i had so may dry spots clustered on my chin that you just cant help picking them and they bleed really easily. It is impossible to camouflage dry spots with make-up so i found that a soft, hot, wet flannel works really well as a gentle exfoliator to make it look a little less horrid!
So its just a bizaar combination of oiliness and flakiness at the moment that is not the best look ive had! Apart from this i have had a few other symptoms but they could be all explained by other things.
My scalp is a bit itchy (but i have been swimming more), my asthma, which i have not had for years is back with a vengence (but i have been going to the gym more), achy joints sometimes (gym again?), sore eyes (tired?) etc etc
So nothing specific to say “yes, this is working” just me over analysing every itch or twitch! I went away for the weekend and had a few glasses of wine with no bad side effects (apart from chatting to a few dodgy men).
Apart from that i have not drunk at all which is good for me and much more healthy. I have still been using the superdrugs “dry skin relief” products which are great but i really don think i need them yet so am going to go back to my normal products in an attempt to dry my skin a bit more.
Thanks for your messages on my first post - keep in touch and let me know if this is similar to what you are experiencing.
take care
Sam x
