Confessions of a Roaccutane Junkie - Week 3

Howdy Everyone!

Another week has flown by and I’m doing quite well all in all. Lips still stupidly dry, got to say that Blistex Intense Moisture lip balm is still the best by far, the body shop hemp stuff is now an emergency one in my handbag.

To add to my filthy junkie reputation, as well as popping pills I’m now snorting vaseline too! Not had a nose bleed at all since I started poking the stuff up my nose so my ’snot pot’ of vaseline comes along everywhere with me now too (need a bigger handbag). Note to self - do not attempt to sneak vaseline up the nostrils whilst at traffic lights unless you really want the looks of disgust from other drivers.

Not had any more headaches or migraines either so that’s good.

In general I have seen an improvement in my skin in small ways. Its less greasy and I do have less new spots, but blackheads are still thriving, still convinced this is good as the goo is being evicted from my face. Old big spots are not going anywhere, stubborn trouble-causers that they are. Flakiness on my nose and cheeks but Hemp body shop stuff is doing the business here big time.

The best news of all this week - my hair is drying out! Sweeeeeeeet! I haven’t washed my hair since Thursday (i think, I’ve lost track!) and even the underneath and my fringe are still not greasy. Obviously it is getting dry and knottier, but not having to spend over an hour drying and straightening my curly hair every other day is awesome! Can’t remember if I mentioned last time but I’ve got some Olive shampoo and conditioner for dry hair from body shop and its made my hair lovely and shiny. Have got a bit of flakiness on scalp but not worrying about that just yet.

Worst news of the week is probably eating. I dunno if Roac is reducing my appetite (I saw someone mention this recently?) or if its my sore lips, but I’ve lost nearly half a stone in the last couple of weeks. I hate eating with my dry lips because my lip balm rubs off and then they feel crusty and I can’t tell if its food stuck to them or dead skin!! God, what are they gonna be like when I want to do loads of snogging at Christmas parties!!

Got derm on Friday but he said it will just be a minion to do pregnancy test and prescribe me some more, maybe they’ll up my dosage and the fun will REALLY begin.  I’d quite like to ramp it up and get on with it.

I have a few questions:

-People who didn’t have very bad acne, did you still have bad breakouts? Do people find that the breakouts are in proportion to how bad their skin was in the first place?

-Anyone else just finished week three? Would be good to have someone to compare notes and generally bitch with!

Well fellow junkies, I think I will go have a nice bath and try help the Roac clear some of the crap out of my pores, take care, Leanne xx

im a little bit behind you… just finished week 2; but i totally agree about the blackhead thing. i didnt have very bad acne before i started (but bad enough to be put on roacc!) and the only thing thats changed really with my skin is that im getting more blackheads; which is annoying but it does feel as though all the crap is being pushed out of my skin; which i guess is a good thing.
anyway, good luck with the appointment x

Hiya, that’s good to know about the blackheads. I’m trying not to exfoliate too hard even though my skin is so rough with them coz its making my face red! I wouldn’t say I had acne, but I do get spots and then keloid scars on my chest, so that’s why I’m on Roac. I’m kinda hoping that because I don’t have really bad skin that the breakouts wont be too bad when they come, because theres not too much stuff under my skin or sommat. Here’s hoping anyway! Ta ta for now, hope your third week is as easy going as mine was xx

Hey there,
I am on Roac for acne on my back. My face was completly clear when I started. About week 4 came and my face looked like a sunburnt alcoholics, also noticed blackheads appearing from no where. My skin was very bumpy and flaky Good news was this only lasted about a week and went away. Ive been on it for about 8 weeks now and it seems my body has got used to it as I basically have no side effects except dry lips. Still got another 4 months left but its definately working wonders.

im wondering also if the rocc reduces appetite. Im usally snacking all the time at work, and constanly taking breaks to nibble on something. But now it seems breakfast and dinner is enough. All the best with your treatment :)

Hi, I’m half way through week 3. Haven’t really had any side effects, other than the dry lips! Am using lots of vasaline, which helps. Wish i’d lost weight! I had a break out in first two weeks, but only in line with level of acne I had previously which was intermediate. I’ve been on anti-biotics for a yr, but as soon as I stopped taking them, it would come back, so now trying the hard core stuff!
