(By Claire) We’ve not updated our diary as we went away during the first week Jess was taking the Roaccutane and this week have been busy getting over it!
Well, for the first week or so I was a bit of a nervous wreck - partly because we’d read so much about the side effects and I just waited for the symptons to start to appear. We stocked up on plenty of lip balms - (every make recommended!), moisturising creams, body washes and eye drops! I do think the first couple of days left Jess pretty tired but there’s also the fact that Big Brother’s in full swing and at thirteen it may be beginning to take its toll. Anyway, apart from that, I haven’t found we are living with the teenager from hell or anything (yet), and personally I think we can see an improvement in Jessie’s skin on the whole - although she has had a few really angry spots appear overnight. Luckily though they haven’t taken long to go. As a parent supporting the Roaccutane journey - my first two weeks have been a worry - but so far I feel she’s coping well and lucky compared to many of the diary entries i’ve read. Incidently, we refused to go along with the prescription of the pill in order to be allowed Roac, so whether this has had any effect I don’t know. Luckily her dermatologist agreed to go against the national guidelines as she is so young. ‘d be interested to know if anyone else had ever been prescribed Roac without having to take the pill. (It was a bit of a battle at the start!)
(By Jessie) Hi, well so far it hasnt been too bad. I have had dry lips and skin, but i treat it a few times a day and it does help alot. This week i have had dry eyes and have been quite sore- especially in the mornings, so i have had to have eye drops, but apart from that nothing new really. Though, I have started to notice that my hair is alot less greasy than it used to be, and now can just get away with washing it every other day. I have had breakouts, i usually get big lumps overnight, which are under the skin so quite annoying but within a few days they have gone. Within the last two weeks my cheeks have become alot clearer, which im really happy about, because i havent seen my skin clear in a long time, but lots of my pores are still open, so have all these little holes on my face! but aren’t really that noticeable. We will see what week 3 brings!
Hope everyone’s treatment is going well x
