Day 7 now and my skin has got worse as the week has progressed. I expected to be drying out more by now but my skin is drying no where near enough to change my routine and feel the need to moisturize.

I feel as if Roaccutane is not working but I think I’m just impatient, no other side effects yet. Tuesday night I had a few spots from the weekend after I’d stopped using the Vilantae and started using the Roaccutane. I wasn’t happy, but after a shave they appeared to be dying down. I only shave at night to give my skin a chance to heal overnight. I hate my skin after shaving because the spots/scars are highlighted and stubble hides them but if I go more than 3 days without a shave I get really sore around chin and neck and more spots develop.

My nose has got quite sore, that’s the most noticeable thing. My nose has never been this sore - lots of whiteheads every day, my nose is red and a bit painful too. I’ve also go lots of whiteheads around my chin area every morning too, luckily I’ve had no plans this weekend and have stayed home alone so I don’t have to face anyone.

I have noticed that I’ve gone a bit flaky around my nose under the eyes area, that’s the only dry area - my lips are a bit dry at times but not too bad. I guess that the Roaccutane is pushing all the acne to the surface now. I’ve been told that it gets worse before it gets better and that most people have an outbreak in the first couple of weeks. I’m worried my skin will get worse in the next week/few weeks, but hopefully my outbreak has started early and will end soon, who knows!

I’m really hoping my skin will dry out soon. I hate having greasy skin and the thought of having dry skin that I need to moisturize is very strange after so many years of having to dab my face with tissue throughout the day to absorb oil/grease.

Products

I have stocked up on supplies in anticipation of my skin drying up. I researched what people have recommended and I have bought tea tree and lycine lip balm from Holland and Barrett, aloe vera moisturizing lotion from the same place (I haven’t read about anyone using this but I thought I’d give it a go, will let you know if it’s any good), avent nipple cream in case the corners of my mouth crack, eye drops, and vaseline for up my nose in case it bleeds and scabs over inside.

Will do my next update a week today and I hope it is a more positive one!

I had Roaccutane treatment when I was 16. My acne was so bad I had 6 cysts (about 1.5cm diameter) on my face.

The Roaccutane sorted it almost completely. I have no real spot problems now.

I found that my lips went EXTREAMLY dry and this carries on for quite a few months after the treatment has stopped. Make sure that if you use a moistureiser that it has no weird stuff in it, try to get normal ‘Aqueous cream’ which you can get from somewhere like boots.

I would recommend Roaccutane to anyone with severe acne, it changed my life in a truly wonderful way. I managed to avoid any noticable scarring. I found it took a couple of weeks to start working, but from then on the progress is quite swift.

Kind regards
