spotcrisis: Doxycycline and RetinA

November 12th, 2009

Been taking the antibiotics for about 2 weeks now and applying the gel every night. At first it was going well but now the spots are starting to come through and Doxy makes me feel sick. Skin and lips are really dry. Found that the pink tin of vaseline is really good!!! Next Derm appointment is not until January when he said that if my skin was no better he would try Roaccutane. Wish he would have just put me straight on it. I’ve stopped taking Dianette as I think its just a cover up, everytime I stop taking it my skin gets worse and I can’t be on it forever. Anyone else had problems when trying to stop taking Dianette?!

hi, im 23, I started on Dianette when i was 16 and it didn’t really help so went onto roaccutane, stayed on dianette as your are meant to use 2 forms of contraception before the derm will prescribe, this also helped with my periods, I took Roac for about 6 months and had no spots, stayed on dianette until Jan 09 so about 8 years, i was quite worried about this after all the horror stories I had heard. I had the odd spot in those years but nothing major. In jan my new doc, suggested I moved to Yasmin, although this gave me sickness and headaches, I wanted to stop the pill and the doc said there is no reason why spots would come back…. 6 months later and I look horrific! im on week 4 and starting to see small improvement today – im hanging in there as i know it will work. As far as im concerned I would stop taking dianette get roac to clear your spots and don’t take any other pill, as i think the minute you stop this sets off the break out – thats what i found! I convinced my derm to prescribe without using 2 forms of contraception. I know how you feel, i felt really fobbed off by the doc for the anti biotics and gels as you just become immune after a few weeks. – but they have to try this before prescribing roac!

Thats exactly what happened to me although I stopped taking Dianette June of this year due to the increasing amount of horror stories and by September I looked liked I had mumps or something. I went back to the doctor and he put me straight back on the dianette and antibiotics. I stopped taking again about 2 weeks ago. I told the derm I wanted to go back on Roaccutane because it worked so well when I was younger but he said I had to try the gel first! Its so frustrating because I know how good it works and instead I have to keep going this. I’ve got to wait until January now until my next appointment!

I know, i think there has been talks about banning dianette! They should because I was not prepared to look like this again, i thought that part of my life was over! I am meant to be getting married in October, but if not better by Jan going to have to postpone- GREAT! There was going to be a 7 week wait on NHS for my 1st apt with derm, and that was classed as urgent, I went private and got an apt withing about 6 days after calling the private patients unit, it was £150 for the consult, then he moved me to NHS list so I didnt have to pay (it was going to be £300 just for the blood test – so imagine what the roac would have cost!)(I went private last time as well was £80 last time) I started Roac within 5 days of that consult so like 11 days from my call to starting taking it, It may be worth it if you feel strongly, they don’t bill to the end of the month either so gives you time to save.

I know what you mean, i don’t know if its worse when you’re at school or now whilst i’m working! Congratulations, I’m sure it will have cleared up by October especially if you’re already a month in, fingers crossed. Thanks for the advice about going private I will definitely look into it. I can’t believe you got it that quickly – i’m so fed up with antibiotics and creams. The reason he wouldn’t put me straight onto Roaccutane was because I have lots of closed comedones and that roaccutane doesn’t always get rid of them?! I’m not sure if he was just fobbing me off!

Oo I’ve winged soooo much on here about Dianette, it totally masked my acne for 11 years, nasty nasty stuff. I just wish after the 2nd time of coming off it someone had suggested roacc, but I just went back on dianette. I found that every time I came off it my skin was even worse. I also suffered tummy problems with antibiotics and my GP took me off them on the lead up to my 2nd derm appointment. Keep hold of the Retin A. Now I’ve finished my roacc my derm nurse said keep the retin-A for emergences, happily I’ve not used it yet. Good Luck and if you can wait for you derm app in Jan, good idea to stay off the dianette too, but so you’re ready to start roacc make sure you use a different pill at least 4 weeks before your first prescription as you need to use contraceptive to get roacc.
    Good Luck, fingers crossed

    Hello,

Some1 should start a dianette pertition!!!!!

Just a note about the pill, I have been prescribed roac and am not on the pill, I told the derm we were just using 1 form of contrecpeiotn and he still have me it (although I have not allowed my fiance anywhere near me just to be safe!) The derm said this has happened to alot of people who have come off dianette…(well why still gove people it then?????) although not so much with other pills so it may be ok.

I am on week 4 now, and the tierdness has just kicked in, along with a banging headache which I woke up with yesterday, I am only on 20mg, but am willing to up the dose (and side effects) if the derm thinks i should.

I’m joining you girls on the Dianette hate-run. I had exactly the same experience; cleared it once on it but then back with a vengenace each time I came off it. Hate the stuff.
