sweetie: Began 2nd course yesterday…

November 10th, 2009

Hello All,

I took my first course of Roaccutane on November 2007 for 6 months, on 20mg. I weight 60kg.  My acne started coming back 1 year after I finished the course.

I went for a derm appointment on Monday and was put straight back onto it.  This new derm said I wasn’t put on the cumulative dosage, so that’s why its come back. Ahh….

I am starting at 20mg from yesterday, and was told my dosage will go up.  Not looking forward to dryness and tiredness, but really am looking forward to the nice hair and nails…and no acne ofcourse.

I’m not taking Dianette this time (first course I was) so I think I may get the dreaded initial breakout.  So far I get about 5 new spots everyday, and these stay for about a week, before they turn into 6month age scars.

Will be keeping an up to date (weekly) diary of how I get on.

As I have already taken a course I [think] I am prepared for the side affects….and I’m in my final year of uni, not like that’s enough stress to deal with!  So I am happy to answer questions…

    Hi Sweetie,

I am not on Dianette either but my derm gave me Erythromycin 250mg (antibiotics) for 2 weeks just to help with the initial breakouts. This worked for me the 1st time and I am hoping it would work the same now. Worth checking with your dr if you have sever breakouts or somtehing…not sure if others have had this combination though.

    Good luck!

    Hi Sweetie,
Good luck with this one, it does seem you were on a low dose, but beware up the dose up the side effects, go for what you can cope with, oo I sounded scary there, I didn’t mean to. Just meant as you’re in your final year and want to avoid being too tired. I managed to make it through my Masters whilst on 40mg, so it can be done. Just make sure you get plenty of rest and drink a decent amount of water, it really helps with the aches.
Really hope it is better second time around.
    Take Care
    FM :D

i am thinking of going back on roaccutane after a year long break. Did you have to have another blood test to go back on it or can you start straight away? (i have several repeats on a prescription leftover) Did you have to visit the dermo?

hi kaimill – yes i went to the dermo again taking ro on the nhs – i was sent away for a blood test before they could prescribe me with it. i would suggest u visit ur dermo rather than taking repeat presciptions. its risky – and they need to watch ur liver levels etc.

FM – thank you. i am scared becoz i know it will have to be a higher dose.through a masters on 40mg wow – was it ok? did it affect ur studying at all?
    thanks, sweetie
