Hi all, I have just found your site and its such a relief to know all the strange things that are happening to my body are the norm on roac!

As a child I always had very greasy skin and a red nose! I was often compared to Santa’s helper!!(kids are so nice ;0) When I hit teenage I spent lots money on facials, my face stayed red, but I didn’t have many spots. Life went on and I had my 2 lovely kids THEN acne hit.

At 25/26 I didn’t expect to be getting such bad spots! After trying a least 4 different types of antibiotics (which just killed my immune system so I caught every cold and virus going!) I was referred to a derm. He explained the side effects to me and I decided at that time I couldn’t risk getting depressed again as I had suffered with it after the birth of my 2nd child.

So I carried on with the antibiotics instead. Needless to say they didn’t do a thing! So I stopped taking them and just put up the the spots which, praise God, were mainly on my back and chest, not my face :).

But at the end of last year I had a monster! It was the size of a golf ball and it had to be removed surgically and packed because it was so deep. But it did kick me into seeing the derm again and this time going through with the treatment, 60mg.

I have had dry skin but have been using cetraben emollient cream and I’ve found it really works and if you don’t pay for prescriptions you could ask your doctor to prescribe it. I’ve also had hot flushes! People keep asking if I’ve been somewhere hot on holiday!!

So here I am just starting my third week, wary but positive and so much encouraged by all of you :) Thank you

hi shaz

thought i’d leave you a message as i’m also an adult sufferer of acne and have suffered with it for 18 years. this site is so great, although i have felt that all i have seemed to do is moan alot about my ever changing side effects, i suppose this site does give u the opportunity to vent your fears and anxieties on roac. i’m only one week in and looking back over my entries it does appear that i have had it all hit me in the first week, however saying that it is nothing i havent been able to cope with and today i am feeling more possitive. i am determined to stay that way and bring some more possitive blogs to this site lol. i still have my views about roac and still do not totally agree with how readily it seems to be prescribed these days but i also understand what it is like to live with acne so understand if it really is the last resort.

oh one question for you you said about a huge lump? cyst? spot? that you had to have removed. was this on your face as i also have a lump on my face and not sure if roac will clear it or if i will have to have it removed. can you tell me more that might give me an idea please?

take care and good luck to you xx

Hi kelly

It was on my back and it was a multi headed acni spot which the doctors thought was on top of a cyst. It went deeper than the local antithetic so I felt a lot of the digging!! I had to have it packed for around 3 months and I still have a small hole. Im not sure what I would have done if it had been on my face; maybe be wait and see what the roac does first?

The side effects are harsh but im hoping that this time next year i will look back and think it was all worth it:)
(my only regret is that I didn’t do it last year when it rained all summer or during the winter!!)

Keep going and let me know how you get on :)

thanks shaz
i think you may be right, yes the side effects are bad but today i am feeling great and side effects are subsiding except the peeling which is getting worse but i expected that, i have noticed the cyst on my face is slightly larger today but maybe that is the roac working and in time it will go down well i do hope so anyway.

i was wondering if anyone knows of anything that works better on your lips other than vaseline, although its good i am having to re apply every half hour which is a pain so wondered if there was anything that works for longer.

keep smiling everyone xx

hi shaz,

will definately go and get some carmex, i did buy a different one but it stang my lips. all was going great here, had few day breakout and then my skin went so clear, was a pit red and peely, just looks like sunburn really but then last night it all went a bit wrong i had a really itchy cheek and kept scratching it and today it looks like someone has ripped a chunk of sellotape off my cheek and took half the skin with it, doesn’t feel much better either so i havent left the house all day and hid when i had to pick my kids up, but its my own fault i knew i shouldn’t scratch it just didnt think it would that!!!! just wish i knew how to make the redness go down. make up doesn’t come close to hiding it ahhh. other than that everything great and yeah watch the sun i slapped on factor 20 and my shoulders burnt withing 15 mins yesterday so gone a bought a higher factor i love the sun so wish i too did it last year when it rained lol.

anyway sorry to babble hope you are good
