Hi there,

I have just joined the site today and am due to start my first course of roaccutane next week.

One of my main concerns is the dry skin, does it just affect the face or the whole body. Has anybody got any recommendations on good moisturisers?

Hi kirsty, Yes it dries out the whole body, skin, lips, eyes and even nostrils. Use a dry skin moisturiser all over your body for the first few weeks, (I’m about week 20 now so I don’t bother anymore) Garnier or Vaseline or Aqueous Cream will do. For the face I use Eucerin, it’s quite expensive but works well (from Boots). Lips - I’ve found nothing works for me except Carmex (the one in the yellow tube, not the little pot). You might use a bit of vaseline in the nose if it gets sore.

Tip - Don’t let the body dry out before you start using the products because it’s difficult to get it back to good condition once its dry and flaky, also if you get the ‘rash’ on your hands, it could be excema, a little hydrocortisone will shift it. Adele

Thanks Adele,

I shall be going out tomorrow to buy all that. Don’t want to end up looking like flaky pastry lol. I should be starting my tablets tomorrow so fingers crossed everything goes well. How are you going with them?

Hey Kirsty,

I’m on day 20, and have finally found a good collection of stuff to use!

Eucerin is good for your face but can appear very greasy and shiny. I use “Avene skin recovery cream” from Boots in the day. It’s from Boots, also quite pricey, but worth it.. totally controls the flakey skin.

Your lips may feel dry as soon as Day 2, like Adele, i have found ‘Carmex’ is by far the best. Although Blistex is good, Carmex works just as well and lasts longer (I find about 2 hours, where blistex is about 30 minutes).

Good Luck (Don’t forget ya Boots card ;-))!

Thanks Andy

Yeah I’ll definately take my boots card and get a few points. Just hoping these pills work for me, fed up of being spotty. If they do I then need to work on my scars, have quite a lot.
