abi: Abi’s Third Course – 2 & a half months later

June 1st, 2009

Thought it was time for an update!!

Since stopping the roaccutane my skin has stayed very good. I currently have 2 tiny spots and they are the first since stopping the course, and as they are only tiny they aren’t really concerning me yet. I am still taking Dianette, however, the doctor called me in for a chat and said i was only allowed to take it for another 2 months (they don’t like u being on this pill too long!). I am quite worried about stopping it as i feel it is helping to keep my skin clear since stopping the roaccutane. I think i may be put onto Yasmin so il have to see how i get on with that!

My skin is still sensitive to the sun and im sitting here with bright red shoulders, very nice!!! This sort of weather really isn’t good for us roaccutane people is it!! I will have to try and locate my industrial strength suncream.

I will post again and let u know how i get on with a change of pill etc..

P.S. Have any of you been recommended creams to put on any spots you get post-roacc?

    Hi Abi,
I’ve been recommended to use benzoyl peroxide on spots that I may get after roaccutane.
Just out of curiousity has the derm’ said anything about future courses to you, ie if your acne does come back will you go on a 4th?

    Good luck.

    Hey,

When my derm gave me my last prescription he actually said “i better not be seeing you again!”, therefore i take it from that that he is hoping he doesn’t have to give me any more courses!!! However, if my skin got bad again, i wud def be back there and asking about taking roaccutane on a long-term basis to control my acne, not sure if he wud let me, but worth a shot i reckon!!

    Hi Abi
Congratulations that it’s worked out for you after a third course! Yeesh that must have been awwwful going through that 3 whole times. Hope it all stays well for you and you won’t need the worry of acne any more.
I put a posty thing on the forum thing but I’m sooo impatient and nobody will reply .. dunno if you could help but basically I came off the stuff a couple of weeks ago, only a week short of cumulative dose because I couldn’t concentrate on A-level studying, everything was going fine then about four days ago I started getting loads of tiny bumps all over my forehead and cheeks, where before it used to be completely smooth (during the course). Did you have this? I’m going to see old Dermykins on Wednesday but still I’m just hoping it’s not the lil buggers coming back again!

Hiya Sophie – I’m sorry to hear that, it’s so frustrating isn’t it! Your derm will probs suggest maybe trying a cream such as differin or he may recommend you go back onto roaccutane. I think you have to wait atleast 6 weeks til you can start another course though (you might want to check this 1 out as im not completely sure exactly how long you have to wait). Let me know how it goes!!

Hiya Helen S – Dianette is the contraceptive pill given to women who suffer with acne as the hormones in it are anti-androgens (the male hormones that make our sebaceous glands grow and end up producuding too much sebum which results in spots). However, doctors dont like you on it too long as it is quite a high risk pill for blood clots etc. Yasmin is an alternative to dianette as it works in a similar way, so it is therefore used by women who have been taking dianette for too long and need to go onto something else. For me, i have found the worse pill for your skin is Microgynon, it made the entire left side of my face break out into spots!!!!

    Hi Abi,

I have been trying to get my hands on Rouaccutane for soo long now. I have tried every single face cream ( my sister is a beauty therapist luckly) and moisturisers. I have heard that Rouaccutane is really good but with bad side effects. I can’t understand that the doctors stress that it can cause depression. Perhaps they are un aware how depressing acne can be!! Anyway – I have just been prescribed Dallicin – T. So hopefully this will help…after reading your blog – I will definately be asking for Rouaccutane next time I go in. Oh also, I am taking a pill called Estelle, it has helped my skin a little bit! Perhaps you could try that one..

    Chloe from New Zealand! :)
