Hey Niamh,

Glad to hear your feeling an improvement after just two weeks, I thought it’d take at least a month before we stopped feeling the effects.

I have question for you though- was six months your exact prescribed time? I’m asking because the last two boxes of roaccutane I collected this week would bring me to my minimun requirement and the end of my six month course, but my derm is suggesting that I should take a further two boxes to reduce the chances of my acne coming back.

However I am thoroughly fed up with being on the meds, especially as my skin is practically spotless, and I’m wondering how necessary it is that I should stay on it for the extra month…???

Any suggestions? Thanks :)

Hi!
yeh i know.. i still have the odd bad moment where i get down and the side effects still effect me but def not as much as they used to! its weird seein a totally diff side to me that has been there for 6months.. sad i know but it feels like there’s been a weight lifted off me!
yep when i first had my appt with the derm she told me that id be on it on a low dose(45) for 6months and when i rang her to say that my 6months were up and that i had one small spot she insisted on keepin me on it(which broke my heart cause like you i had had enough of it and was lookin forward to comin off it) so she told me to get a preg test and she sent me on a prescription for 10days(which i was confused about cause i didnt know weither that was all i was allowed extra or if it was just until i sent the preg test) so it took me a good 2wks to get the preg test as im in college and dates etc kept gettin mixed up and after i got it i just decided that id had enough of it and i sent the preg test plus a letter telling her that i wanted to stop unless i was guareenteed another outbreak then id stay on it. i sent that a week ago and iv heard nothin back(which im slightly disappointed she didnt even ring) but sure..
if your skin is clear then to be honest id say just finish your course and stop!
its up to you but i had had enough of it and so far so good iv just a few spot marks as such left over from spots 3wks ago! hope thats of some help..
im here anyway if you want anything else!xx

Hey guys!
As i’m hopefully going on ruacutane soon i was just wandering whether the medicine will clear spots on shoulders and chests? Also, are the side affects really bad? im worried my demotologist won’t prescribe me it becuase of them…
Im glad it worked for you! My GP said it was effective…

i did my 6 month course then had a break and now im just finishing the rest off with a two months course :) they never really affected me in the way of feeling sad, touch wood. When i went back to my derm last time he told me that he doesnt need to see me again :D it feels great but i feel as if im going it alone. what other side effects did you have?
:)

Hey Niamh, thanks for the response, it was helpful and I just hope I’ll soon be posting my finishing comments too lol.. I hope your derm contacts you soon though, she really shouldn’t leave you hanging at the end of your treatment like that :S

Lou-
Yes roaccutane does clear spots on shoulders and chest, and back- I used to have a fair bit on my back and shoulders, but like my face they’ve been clear for 10 weeks straight

And as for side effects, in the early weeks I started out with really dry skin and lips, and was feeling very lethargic most of the time, but as the weeks progressed [i'm in week 19 now], it’s mainly been dry lips and slightly dry skin on my face after I wash it. More recently my lips have gotten a lot redder, and occasionally have these small waterbumps, but they are hardly noticeable and not painful and go within a couple days. It’s more annoying for me to see than physically bothersome.
